Investment Opportunity

After many attempts by other developers to convert the historic Marques de la Sonora Palace into a 50-room luxury boutique hotel, Alsotel's keen approach resulted into a more optimized use of the areas, resulting into 69 rooms, and hence making the financial results attractive to support the land value in the center of Malaga’s old quarter.

The timing into the purchase of the Palace and adjoining land to develop a second phase with an extra 30 rooms, gym, conference facilities and roof top bar with pool was the result of Alsotel’s analysis of the repositioning of Malaga’s capital city and the Costa del Sol after the recession.

The hotel will be the first premium luxury hotel in the old quarter of Malaga, accompanying the city into its current repositioning as a tourist destination. The complexity of returning the derelict outer walls into the splendid grandeur of the Palace made this a complex yet very attractive project.

The business plan was conceived by Alsotel, who exited the project in 2018, prior to its opening, as it assisted the investment partner in the creation of their own hotel investment platform. The hotel successfully opened in 2019.

Location: Málaga | Acquisition Date: December 2015 | Built area: 4,600 sqm
